Review of Cardiology Consultant OPD written by a patient
2nd January 2020

After a bit of a wait, I was first seen by a nurse and then by a specialist both of who were very nice. I was then informed about what would happen next. So, just waiting for a letter now.

Review of Fracture Liaison Service written by a patient

Advice about osteoporosis risk was given in a very caring and patient way, and all staff encountered were cheerful and friendly. There is a minor problem with queuing priority and congestion at Reception because both arriving and leaving patients are dealt with at the same desk, which is sited closed to the doorway.

An excellent service was provided by Debbie Hunt and Janet Dawson who both had a splendid sense of humour and a good staff/patient attitude and they both worked very efficiently.

Review of E3 written by a patient
30th December 2019

From reporting to my local triage nurse, fearing a complication to my rupture due to severe coughing, to the fast efficient entry to the QA hospital and emergency operation for a strangulated small bowel. I was very impressed on the speed and efficiency culminating in the emergency surgery to rectify the problem and thereafter the friendly service of the staff during my initial recovery. Thank you

Review of Dermatology written by a patient

The care, concern, and patience of the consultant was enough to recommend her to others. On appointment days the wait may at times be long but worth it for the time and care that she gives. With a condition that means the patient has to undress and redress the appointment time slots need to be allocated longer. The visits cannot be rushed so a 15 minute time slot is ridiculous and unfair to the consultant. She is the first consultant over the years that I felt listened to me and emphasized with my general problems not just the condition I was presenting with at that time.

I arrived early and was seen earlier than expected, the nurse and the senior nurse that were looking after me kept me informed of everything that was happening and what future treatment would be and were kind, caring and professional. The care that I was given was exemplary and I could not fault it .

To cut a long story short, I was referred by my GP for ultrasound scan in September 2019, was given wrong information ie a different patient's appointment details. Eventually was told they had no ultrasound scan appointments and I ended up paying for a private scan which showed a mass in my colon. My GP was brilliant and sent me for an urgent CT scan referral which never happened, was told I had an appointment for sigmoidoscopy which was totally inappropriate for looking at the caecal. Was then sent appointment for consultant appointment who asked why I hadn't had a CT scan and referred under the 2ww. I had a call over a week later to see surgeon the next day 10th December who confirmed colon cancer, stage 4. I was referred again for CT scan of chest (which wasn't done when I had the abdo/pelvic CT) an MRI and colonoscopy, he told the specialist nurse he wanted them done before Christmas as they had to decide wether to operate first then chemo or chemo followed by op. The MRI and CT were done 4 days later but I am still waiting for the colonoscopy despite several phone calls, apparently they're very busy. The 2 week wait, supposedly urgent limit is up tomorrow. I have no faith in this hospital! Get your outpatient services sorted out. When phoning a department at least have an answering service to leave a message. (Being told "they're not very good at answering their phone" is not good enough. Update your outpatient letters to give the proper information e.g. you will be given a preparation to drink - no, we inject a dye into your vein. "You have a telephone appointment for assessment for your surgery" - no, we send that out to everyone, this is for your colonoscopy and no we don't know when it will be, the department is very busy.
